Coats
Dogs come in all different coat types, depending on their breed or mix of breeds. Before you start grooming your dog, understand his coat type.
That little bit of knowledge will give you the edge when it comes to making him look his best. To determine what kind of coat type your dog has, take a close look at his fur – which category fits his coat?
Fleece Coat
The Fleece textured coat is a soft texture as in the Angora goat. It can either have a straight wavy look or a soft spiraling curl look. It is an easy to manage textured coat.
There are two coat types that are considered allergy friendly. These are the Fleece coat, and this has a soft textured fleecy feeling. The two variations are wavy fleece and curly fleece. Then there is the Wool coat. This has a definite dense wool feel, and is mildly to very curly. The last coat type still seen today is the Hair coat. It too varies from short wiry to long combination.
Wool Coat
The Wool coat is like a lamb’s wool in texture. It should have the appearance of looser spiraling wool, which opens up easily to the skin. It should not appear thick and dense or tightly curly.
These Hair coats will soon be a thing of the past, but for now they still play an important part in the breeding and development of the fleece coat. Because of the soft textured coat of the OES it would not be possible for any progeny to have a hair coat.
Our first generation puppy will have a lovely fleece coat whilst the multi-gen puppies will have the very coveted wool coat.
